| The old Venetian Castle is the first view when somebody visits the island as it is founded in the highest hill of the island’ main town which is Chora Naxos. It is amazing how the Cycladic traditional and white buildings meet the rich history of the island such as this Castle which is alive since 1207, some Byzantine monuments and churches and of course the famous traces of Mycenaean buildings in the spot known as Portara or Grotta. Furthermore in Apollonas village lay since 6th century BC the oldest among the Greek history ancient 10,5m unfinished human marbled statue called “Kouros” which indicates that Naxos was in the top of the Greek civilization’ pyramid. Also, Naxos marbles are world wide famous since then. |
